Position Summary

  

Community Services Labourer is an entry level position where general labour and custodial functions are performed.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

 

The Labourer assists with the cleaning and maintenance of municipal recreation facilities and parks.  Specific duties include:

 

  1. Cleans washrooms and public areas to ensure facilities are clean for the public and renters.
  2. Sets up facilities, tables, chairs, stages and other items prior to events; cleans-up and restores the same following events.
  3. Paints, sands, weeds, plants, shovels, removes garbage and debris, and similar basic labour functions.
  4. Facilitates patron compliance with Municipal codes of conduct, facility rules, policies, and procedures.
  5. Assist the Community Services Operators.
  6. Perform related duties as required.

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

 

  • Ability to learn to operate basic equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to verbally communicate effectively with the public and co-workers to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
  • Ability to provide strong customer service to the public and renters to provide a safe and fun environment.

 

Education and Experience

 

This position requires the following minimum qualifications:

 

  • Must possess, or be willing to obtain, standard First Aid/CPR and WHMIS certification. 
  • No experience is required.

 

Independence and Scope of Impact

 

The work is directed by a Leadhand who may not always be on site. The incumbent is expected to perform the assigned tasks according to instructions provided or according to established work practices and procedures. The Leadhand is consulted if the job requires additional resources or if unforeseen conditions present themselves. 

 

Contacts

 

Internal – Regular contacts are maintained with co-workers on the job site.

 

External – Regular contact with the public is required to exchange information and answer basic enquiries about the work.

Working Conditions

 

The work is performed in a mix of indoors and outdoors, including all weather conditions.  There are occasions when the conditions are extreme in terms of temperature, inclement weather, mud, dust, noise, vibration.  The work is physically strenuous and regularly requires the incumbent to bend, kneel, crouch and stand. The incumbent must routinely items weighing in excess of 5kgs, and occasionally in excess of 10kgs.
